Message 1) First remove what you can from the engine bay and hand wash it with some dish soap. This includes the throttle cable cover, cruise control modules, battery, etc.
2) While that stuff is drying get out a few rags and some simple green. You really need to focus on removing grease, looking for fluid leaks and checking the condition of the engine bay paint.
3) I'd suggest waxing what you can. Most engine bay's aren't clear coated.
4) Get some metal polish (I like Flitz) and polish any metal hard lines you see (A/C and whatnot).
5) Put everything back.

Now if you're considering polishing or powdercoating your intake manifold do yourself a favor and first grind the plenum down so you can get to the injectors without removing this. This is much easier to do with the plenum off the car. Also remember that powder tends to set up thicker than paint so remove about 1mm more material that you think you need to.
